Hi, I'm new and found this website to be, quite frankly, cool.

I would like to make a Multi charging station using 8 USB ports using 4 stacked type a USB jacks:

I know there are some readily available to purchase, but I have a whole plethora of scavenged USB Jacks and DC wall warts, I kinda like to try and make my own, I attempted to make one as an experiment
to charge my iPod shuffle but I couldn't get a voltage reading on my DMM when I connected a usb jack (#'s 1 & 4 pins) to a 5 volt wall wart (300mA) utilizing a used iPod usb connector to charge, but nothing happen, can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi

I'm not entirely sure I understand the issue you are describing... If you connect the ground and VUSB pins of a USB type A female connector to ground and +5Vs of a PSU (which must absolutely be regulated to 5Vs) it should power any USB device.

Strictly speaking though, each port should provide at least 100mAs, so for 4 ports your PSU will need to be at least 500mAs to be on the safe side.

Cool, it works! Thanks, I didn't account for the mAs. I had a 5v PSU with 100 mAs, I just grabbed any ol' wall wart out of the "spare psu box", so to speak.
